Visit to the Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden of Bologna is managed by the University and is located in via Irnerio. Founded in the sixteenth century by Ulisse Aldrovandi, it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe, classified as the fourth in terms of date of foundation in Italy, preceded only by the gardens of Pisa, Padua and Florence. Over the years, the Botanical Garden has undergone various transformations and in 1803 it was moved from its current location. After a period of abandonment in the early twentieth century, also marked by the bombardments of 1944 which damaged the Napoleonic Orangery, the garden was gradually restored from the end of the Second World War. Inside there are plants, herbs and flowers from all over the world which, in spring in particular, bloom and blossom in all their splendor.
